In the traditional way of doing things, it was always
mandatory for anyone applying to be connected to the national Cheap electricity in Texas grid
to pay a deposit to the electricity-supply company. For many people, this
charge often turned out to be much higher than even the charges for getting the
electricity physically connected (the wiring, switches, sockets and so on).
These were the days when all we had were those analog meters which every
electricity user had to have installed at their premises, for the purposes of
metering their electricity usage. It was the meter readings that were used in
calculating electricity usage bills. What this meant was that you only paid for
your electricity consumption after having used the power. The requirement for
the electricity deposit was therefore a mechanism by the electricity-supply
company, to protect itself in case one was unable to pay their electricity
bills for a given month after having used electricity for the duration.
The last few years have, however, seen a rise in the number
of companies that offer what they refer to as 'No Deposit Electricity-supply.'
In these schemes, you don't have to pay any deposit to the electricity supply
company in order to get the electricity supplied. You only need to pay for the
installation of the electricity-supply equipment, but no deposit is required of
you.
We have, consequently (and quite understandably), seen many
people being attracted to these no deposit electricity supply schemes.
One of the reasons many people are drawn to the no deposit
electricity-supply schemes is their appreciation of the fact that the companies
which demand for electricity deposits tend to be very quick to take the money
that makes up the deposit, but very reluctant to refund it when the time for
doing so comes. Many of the companies know that by the time you get to asking
to get your deposit money back, your relationship with them will be nearing its
end. They therefore have no motivation to refund promptly, seeing that the
relationship is coming to an end anyway. And rather than get into these
struggles, many people who have the choice opt to go to the no deposit
electricity-supply schemes, and thereby avoid the potential frustration of
trying to get a refund on their electricity deposits.
Most of the no deposit electricity supply schemes also tend
to be the prepaid electricity schemes. Actually, it is the very fact that
electricity usage is prepaid which makes the electricity deposits superfluous.
But seeing that they are prepaid electricity schemes, many people find many
other issues - besides the fear of not being promptly refunded of their
deposits - as motivations for their opting for these no deposit electricity
supply programs. One of those other reasons is the superb electricity
expenditure control that is made possible by the prepaid electricity supply
programs. There is also the greater accuracy made possible by the prepaid
electricity supply programs (as compared to the postpaid systems, where human error
in meter reading can lead to great inaccuracies).
And then there is the considerable convenience, in
electricity procurement, associated with the prepaid electricity schemes (which
also tend to be the no deposit electricity supply schemes); which sees many
people opt for these schemes.
Electricity is
an important requirement and many consumers are willing to opt for prepaid electricity from their power service provider.
